Dodgers Reinstate Evan Phillips from Injured List After 13-Month Absence

Reliever Evan Phillips was reinstated off the injured list Monday by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 13 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2025. ESPN reported that the 31-year-old right-hander spent the past month at Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he recorded a 1.80 ERA with 13 strikeouts and five walks in 10 innings across 12 appearances. Phillips said his primary pitch mix is sharp.
"My primary mix is very sharp and ready to roll," he said before the Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-7 in 11 innings. He added that he focused first on physical aspects of his delivery during the rehab assignment before emphasizing execution in later outings. The Dodgers do not plan to use Phillips as their closer.
Tanner Scott has handled those duties while Edwin Díaz has been sidelined since April with loose bodies in his elbow. Phillips is expected to build stamina in middle relief with an eye toward October, when the NL West-leading Dodgers aim for a third consecutive World Series championship.
In related roster moves, the Dodgers optioned right-hander Paul Gervase to Triple-A Oklahoma City, released left-hander Jake Eder, added right-hander Carlos Duran to the 40-man roster and designated catcher Chuckie Robinson for assignment.
