DoorDash Report Finds Cheeseburger Meal Prices Vary From $12.94 to $28.28

DoorDash released its State of Local Commerce report showing the average price of a cheeseburger, fries and soda at $12.94 in Austin, Texas, the lowest among cities examined. The same meal averaged $28.28 in Anchorage, Alaska. Fox News reported that the average price across tracked cities climbed 3.2 percent over the past year.

Other lower-cost cities included Laredo, Texas, at $13.39, Lincoln, Nebraska, at $13.86, Detroit at $14.99 and Philadelphia at $15.41. Jessica Lachs, DoorDash's chief analytics officer, said the findings illustrate multiple local economies rather than a single national one. She noted that the same basket of goods costs $12.94 on average in Austin but $28.28 in Anchorage during the same quarter.

Lachs described the Cheeseburger Index as a simple way to track price changes by showing what a recurring monthly order would cost. The report also recorded avocado prices rising 12.4 percent and milk prices rising 8.3 percent from the previous quarter.
