DR Congo government spokesperson and Minister of Communication Patrick Muyaya said Rwanda lacks the political will to implement the 2025 US-brokered peace agreement between the two countries. Muyaya made the remarks in an interview with France 24 and called for stronger US pressure on Kigali. "The United States should use more tools on Rwanda.
It's not enough yet," Muyaya stated. He added that the two sides remain committed to sustainable peace, not only an immediate halt to fighting. The statements come a year after Rwanda and DR Congo signed the agreement in Washington.
Muyaya rejected Rwandan claims that Kinshasa has failed to neutralize the FDLR armed group, calling those accusations a false pretext for continued Rwandan involvement in eastern DR Congo. Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe has said DR Congo has not fulfilled its obligations, including action against the FDLR.
