Duffy Transfers $1M From Congressional Account to Son-in-Law Alfonso’s Super PAC as Alfonso Leads GOP Primary Polling
Sean Duffy moved remaining campaign funds to Michael Alfonso, a 26-year-old first-time candidate endorsed by President Trump for Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district.
The IndependentTransportation Secretary Sean Duffy transferred $1 million in remaining funds from his congressional account to the super PAC supporting Michael Alfonso, his 26-year-old son-in-law, Axios reported Wednesday. Alfonso, who is married to Duffy’s daughter Evita Duffy-Alfonso, previously worked in construction and podcasting and is running for the first time in Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district.
He has received endorsements from President Donald Trump, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
Alfonso has collected more than $50,000 in donations, many from donors with transportation interests, ProPublica reported earlier this year. After the White House froze billions in federal funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project in October, lobbyists from Venture Government Strategies donated $2,000 to Alfonso’s campaign in December and March.
Patrick Goddard, president of Brightline, a high-speed train service in Florida, gave $1,000 in March.
Duffy flew to Alfonso’s first campaign event in November during a government shutdown that forced airports to reduce air traffic. In December he appeared as a special guest at a campaign fundraiser sponsored by the political action committee for Delta Air Lines.
” Duffy must comply with the Hatch Act, which restricts government officials from participating in political activity, but permits campaigning for his son-in-law in a personal capacity.
The Independent has asked Brightline, Venture Government Strategies, the Alfonso campaign and Duffy for comment. In April, Republicans in Wisconsin complained that Alfonso had not attended debates. ” Iron County Republican chair Tanner Hiller called the absence “an insult” to voters and said there are more qualified candidates.
