Dutch Royals Visit White House for Dinner and Overnight Stay During U.S. Working Trip

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands were welcomed to the White House on Monday evening by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The event included a dinner and an overnight stay for the Dutch royals. This visit forms part of a working trip to the United States, distinct from a formal state visit.

Discussions also addressed recent developments in and around Iran, emphasizing the need for a sustainable solution to prevent escalation, as well as Russia's ongoing aggression in Ukraine.

The dinner consisted of three courses and was described by Mr.

Jetten as open and constructive. He noted that differences of opinion arose but were not resolved during the brief meeting. In an interview with De Telegraaf, Mr. Jetten stated it was too short to convince each other on those points.

The visit coincides with preparations for America's 250th anniversary of independence in 2026, offering a chance to reflect on historical connections between the two countries.

The Dutch royals stayed overnight in the Lincoln Bedroom, a historic room near the presidential quarters. This arrangement reciprocates President Trump's stay at the Dutch royals' Huis ten Bosch Palace during the NATO summit in The Hague last June, which included informal breakfast discussions.
