St Patrick's Church in Patrington has launched a campaign to raise £100,000 to restore the iron and steel frame that supports its historic bells. The frame has corroded due to salt spray and marine conditions from the nearby Humber and North Sea. Villagers have not heard the bells ring for the past four years because it has not been safe to operate them.

The project requires removing the bells, extracting the frame, and sending it for shot blasting and painting before reinstallation. Mike Davis, one of the volunteers who maintains the church, said the structure sits on the highest point in the village and is visible for miles.

"We have the Humber to one side and we have the North Sea to the other, so it's almost a marine environment up there for spray and salt and [the frame] has corroded," Davis said.

A concert featuring international organist Sean Maxwell took place at the church on Sunday to support the effort. Additional events, including a festival of music with three choirs, are scheduled throughout the year. The church also plans to recruit a new team of bell ringers while the restoration proceeds.

St Patrick's dates to the 13th century and is a Grade I listed building known as the Queen of Holderness. Two of the eight bells are dedicated to six men from the village who died during World War Two.
