winnipegfreepress.comThe Edmonton Oilers signed goaltender Frederik Andersen to a one-year contract on the opening day of NHL free agency. ESPN reported the agreement, which is valued at $2.75 million with a $1 million salary cap hit for the 2026-27 season and includes $1.8 million in performance bonuses tied to regular-season games played and playoff success.
Andersen, 36, joins Edmonton after five seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes.
He previously played on a matching one-year, $2.75 million deal with Carolina. The veteran helped the Hurricanes capture three Eastern Conference playoff series en route to the Stanley Cup Final, posting a 12-1 record in those rounds and starting 13 of the team's 16 playoff wins. Andersen surrendered the starting role to Brandon Bussi in the Stanley Cup Final after suffering a knee injury.
He also represented Denmark at the Winter Olympics in Milan in February. A native of Herning, Denmark, Andersen was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2012 NHL draft and previously played with Oilers forward Zach Hyman in Toronto. His agent, Claude Lemieux, died by suicide on May 28 at age 60.
Andersen had been one of Lemieux's first prominent clients after the agent's playing career.
