Egyptian President Pledges Faster Joint Projects During Tanzania Visit

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the State House in Dar es Salaam on 18 July 2026 and pledged to accelerate joint economic projects after the one-day state visit. AllAfrica reported that the talks sought to convert long-standing political ties into concrete gains in trade, investment and infrastructure.
El-Sisi expressed Egypt's readiness to join expansion and modernisation of the Port of Dar es Salaam while proposing a direct maritime shipping route between Safaga Port and Dar es Salaam to cut transport costs and transit times.
He also proposed a multimodal transport corridor linking Cairo and Dar es Salaam through integrated roads, rail and logistics networks. The leaders discussed joint agricultural projects to convert suitable land into productive farmland and improve food security in both countries.
El-Sisi pointed to the success of Egyptian companies that built the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project as a foundation for further infrastructure work.
He said he had directed Egyptian institutions to increase expertise transfer, technical support and training programmes for Tanzanian professionals. Cooperation will also cover construction, roads, electricity, energy, irrigation, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, with greater private-sector involvement encouraged.
The talks addressed regional developments in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
El-Sisi commended Tanzania's role in promoting dialogue among Nile Basin countries.
