Eight additional countries will participate in the Luzon Economic Corridor project in the Philippines, according to a report published on Thursday. The Luzon Economic Corridor, a trilateral infrastructure initiative originally led by the United States, Japan and the Philippines, is set to receive support from Canada, Australia, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Initially envisioned as a connectivity project linking three main ports and two international airports across four cities on Luzon, the Philippines’ main island, the corridor has broadened to include investments in energy, digital systems, cybersecurity, shipbuilding and advanced manufacturing.

The additions come as participating countries accelerate regional trade diversification in sectors ranging from artificial intelligence to energy.

The US embassy in Manila said in a statement on Tuesday that coordinated investments in transport infrastructure, energy systems, digital connectivity and advanced manufacturing supply chains through the project will create thousands of high-quality jobs.

The statement added that the corridor will transform Luzon into a more prosperous and interconnected region. A Manila-based think tank president said the inclusion of more countries reflected growing confidence in the Philippines as an economic and security partner in the Indo-Pacific.

Philippine finance officials said in the same statement that the expanded corridor showed the commitment of like-minded nations to shared prosperity. The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen economic ties and infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific region.
