The average transaction price for a new vehicle passed $50,000 in April, according to data cited by CarGurus. At the same time, the number of models with average transaction prices below $30,000 dropped to 20 from 27 the previous May, Cox Automotive data showed.
Four of those 20 models carried average MSRPs above $30,000, indicating discounts kept them under the threshold. Six models offered incentives above the national average of 6.7 percent.
Eleven vehicles still carry base MSRPs below $25,000 before destination fees. A subcompact crossover starts at $21,700, while a compact sedan begins at $22,290. A second compact sedan lists at $22,600, and another at $22,625. An entry-level SUV starts at $22,730, and a compact car begins at $23,125.
An upright crossover opens at $23,300, a compact SUV at $23,790, and a sedan at $23,995. A minimal electric pickup truck starts at $24,950. Higher trims, options, and destination charges can push final prices above $30,000 on most of these models. The electric pickup offers a 205-mile range in base form and allows buyers to add features after delivery.
