Sen. Elizabeth Warren endorsed Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan's Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate. The Massachusetts Democrat made the announcement ahead of the August primary. Warren stated that El-Sayed is the only candidate in the race not taking corporate money and is fighting to remove money from politics.
She added that El-Sayed studied to be a doctor and is fighting for affordable, high-quality healthcare for every American. El-Sayed is a Democratic candidate for the Michigan seat. Warren had previously endorsed Graham Platner in the same race.
Platner withdrew after a rape allegation, which he denied, and criticism over a chest tattoo resembling a Nazi-era symbol that he apologized for and covered. Fox News reported that Warren had also endorsed Katie Porter in California's gubernatorial race, Mallory McMorrow in Michigan's Senate race and Zach Wahls in Iowa's Senate race.
Porter and Wahls lost their primaries, while McMorrow suspended her campaign before voters cast ballots.
El-Sayed spoke before Sen. Bernie Sanders at Mumford High School on May 3, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan.
