England to Face Argentina in World Cup Semifinal on Wednesday in Atlanta

England will play Argentina in a World Cup semifinal on Wednesday at 20:00 BST in Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department said it has enhanced its citywide public safety and security posture for the match. Additional officers will be deployed around the stadium and across the city's entertainment and high-traffic areas, with large crowds expected before and after the match.

Additional personnel and resources are already deployed and will continue to be strategically assigned in and around the event venues, entertainment districts, and other high-traffic areas, the department stated on July 14, 2026. Thomas Tuchel and assistant Anthony Barry assumed control of the England team in January 2025.

They signed new contracts until 2028 along with Henrique Hilario, Nico Mayer and James Melbourne.

Barry, 40 and born in Liverpool, previously worked with Tuchel at Chelsea and Bayern Munich and served on the staffs of the Belgium and Portugal national teams. Barry began his playing career in the lower leagues and was part of the Accrington Stanley side that won the Conference 20 years ago, returning the club to the Football League for the first time in 44 years.

England played six games across a 22-day stretch if they reach the final.

Their only match in demanding conditions was the 2-1 quarter-final win over Norway in Miami. Tuchel and Barry scouted training bases and facilities in the United States last summer while watching the Club World Cup.
