England to face Norway in World Cup quarterfinal in Miami

England and Norway meet in a 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal on July 11 at 5 p.m. ET in Miami, Florida. The winner advances to face either Switzerland or Argentina in the semifinals. Norway coach Stale Solbakken made one change to the lineup that defeated Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16, substituting Andreas Schjelderup for Antonio Nusa on the left wing.

The midfield consists of Sander Berge, Patrick Berg, and Martin Odegaard, with Erling Haaland leading the line. Al Jazeera reported that the wet-bulb globe temperature at the Miami venue is forecast around 88 degrees Fahrenheit. FIFA requires cooling breaks after 30 and 75 minutes only when the temperature surpasses 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends stopping athletic activity when the index exceeds 82 degrees Fahrenheit. A coalition of scientists from five continents sent an open letter to FIFA in May recommending postponing matches when the wet-bulb globe temperature reaches 82 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

Scientists from the New Weather Institute stated that older supporters and those with pre-existing health conditions face particular risks of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat stroke.

Miami has recorded rising temperatures in recent years from concrete and greenhouse gases.
