England striker Harry Kane said he and Norway's Erling Haaland are completely different players who occupy almost two different positions. Kane spoke to reporters on Friday in Miami Gardens, Florida, one day before England faces Norway at Hard Rock Stadium in a World Cup quarterfinal. Kane scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England during the 2025-26 season.
Haaland scored 46 goals and won the Premier League Golden Boot with Manchester City for the third time in four years in the 2024-25 season. At the World Cup, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi each have eight goals, Haaland has seven and Kane has six. Kane praised Haaland's physical attributes and finishing ability.
He added that he prefers to touch the ball more and stay involved in play while still being able to play as an out-and-out striker. Kane said he respects Haaland as a player and professional and hopes the Norwegian has a quiet day on Saturday. England topped Group L and needed two late goals from Kane to defeat Congo DR.
The team then beat Mexico 3-2 in the round of 16 at Azteca Stadium. Kane said the squad must now show its best version in the knockout stages after an imperfect group phase.
