It also promotes planting of fruit trees, fodder crops, fuel wood, and ornamental plants. Since its start, the initiative has mobilized millions of participants, including members of national defense and security forces, and has become one of the world's largest tree-planting efforts.
The campaign is conducted each year during the rainy season and has contributed to food security and urban beautification in addition to environmental goals.
