SolarPower Europe reported Tuesday that annual battery storage additions in Europe are expected to reach 138 GWh by 2030. The group said the European Union total would rise six-fold to 470 GWh, still short of its own 600 GWh target.
SolarPower Europe said Tuesday that annual battery storage installations across Europe are projected to rise from roughly 35 GWh in 2025 to as much as 138 GWh in 2030. The association stated that the 2030 figure would represent a fourfold increase from 2025 levels.
It added that cumulative battery capacity in the European Union is forecast to reach 470 GWh by 2030, a six-fold increase from current levels.
Europe noted that the projected 470 GWh total would fall short of the 600 GWh it estimates the EU requires to meet energy-security, competitiveness, and decarbonization goals. The top five markets accounted for 62 percent of new installations in 2025, down from nearly 80 percent in 2024.
SolarPower Europe said the shift indicates greater geographic diversification in battery deployment. Aurora Energy Research separately projected that co-located renewable-plus-storage capacity in Europe would increase from 6 GW in 2025 to as much as 35 GW by 2030.
