American developers seeking commitments for new export terminals have held discussions with European buyers, yet those talks have not produced binding agreements. U.S. LNG would create a similar single-source dependence.

A complete ban on Russian LNG imports begins January 2027, followed by a ban on Russian pipeline gas imports in autumn 2027.
The bloc aims to end all Russian gas imports by the end of 2027. U.S. LNG. Forecasts published in May 2026 by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis project that the United States could supply as much as 80 percent of EU LNG imports by 2028.
Separately, several European utilities have shown interest in future output from Canada’s Ksi Lisims LNG project. The facility already holds offtake agreements covering 5 million tons per year and is seeking additional commitments for 3 million to 4 million tons, Western LNG’s chief executive told Reuters.
