Evangelicals at Conference Voice Continued Support for Israel

Attendees at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference said their support for Israel has not changed. A lawmaker told the audience that antisemitism signals wider anti-American sentiment. The same lawmaker had questioned university leaders during earlier hearings on campus protests.

Johnson read aloud sections of a Democratic Socialists of America platform calling for an end to U.S. aid to Israel and prosecution of American and Israeli officials. Audience members reacted audibly during the reading. Several attendees told the Washington Examiner they want continued U.S. backing for Israel even while talks proceed on a memorandum of understanding with Iran.

One board member of an Iowa chapter said Israel is a key ally that would face severe threats without U.S. support. Another retiree cited biblical reasons for continued assistance. Polling cited by the Washington Examiner shows Republican favorability toward Israel at 58 percent overall, with lower support among those ages 18 to 49.

Conference participants noted concerns about unlimited aid while still describing Israel as a strategic partner.
