Ex-girlfriend describes past statements by Maine Senate candidate

An ex-girlfriend of Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner said he often described violent fantasies about home intruders while watching television and sharpening an axe. ” Fifield said the statements left her unsettled, especially when combined with an assault rifle kept in the apartment and the axe Platner sharpened during the conversations.

Additional allegations Fifield also described incidents in which Platner grabbed her by the shoulders during arguments and once twisted her arm before pushing her into a room and blocking the exit. Platner disputed the accounts of physical altercations but acknowledged struggling with undiagnosed PTSD and alcohol use during that period.

” Fifield, who has worked on Republican campaigns, said she would have shared the account regardless of Platner’s party affiliation. The New York Post reported that Fifield is one of three ex-girlfriends who spoke to the Times about their experiences dating Platner.
