Anthony Wint, who played for the Jets in 2018, will compete on Dana White's Contender Series on August 11 in an attempt to earn a UFC contract. The 6-0 fighter faces Matt Adams in Las Vegas. Wint made his amateur MMA debut in 2021 and recently won a regional heavyweight title.
nypost.comFormer NFL linebacker Anthony Wint is scheduled to compete in Dana White's Contender Series on August 11 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The bout against Matt Adams is part of the event where participants seek to earn a UFC contract, nypost.com reported. Wint, who appeared in two games for the Jets in 2018, told ESPN he is grateful for the opportunity.
"I feel like I'm arriving at a point in my career where preparation and timing are finally meeting," he said. He added that he has spent years developing as a fighter and as a man mentally, spiritually and professionally. The 30-year-old is 6-0 as a professional and has recorded finishes in five of his six appearances, four by knockout.
He made his amateur MMA debut in 2021 and won a heavyweight title on the regional scene in March in Fury FC. "I respect everybody in this sport, but I truly believe I'm built for the highest level," Wint stated. "The goal isn't just to win fights.
Wint said he values the chance to perform in front of UFC CEO Dana White and earn a contract on the series. "Some people would say it's better to go straight to the UFC, but I love the opportunity to perform in front of UFC CEO Dana White and earn it," he told ESPN.
Former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is set to face social media star Bob Menery at the venue on May 23. UFC CEO Dana White will host the Contender Series event. White previously commented on the Manziel-Menery bout.
He said he would bet $10,000 on Menery not appearing. I said, 'I'm betting on you don't even show up, that's my bet,'" White said on Instagram in April. "Menery never does anything he says he's going to do," White added.
