Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Northern California Through Tuesday
Temperatures may reach 110°F in parts of the Sacramento Valley and Shasta County. Overnight lows are forecast to stay in the 70s across the region.

Overnight lows are expected to remain in the 70s. The National Weather Service has issued a Major Heat Risk alert for the region. The peak of the West Coast heat is expected Sunday and Monday. The Portland metro area is forecast to see highs between 95°F and 100°F.
Southwest Washington communities including Vancouver and the Columbia River Gorge are also expected to reach those levels. Overnight temperatures in the Portland metro area and southwest Washington are expected to dip into the low to mid 60s. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has warned that prolonged extreme heat without nighttime cooling can strain health systems, infrastructure and essential services.
King tides are expected in Newport Beach from Saturday through Tuesday. Waves are forecast to reach 6 to 8 feet, with tides peaking around 7 feet. Cooling centers are being made available in California for those without access to air conditioning, according to the California Department of Public Health.
Frigid snowmelt-fed waters can trigger cold-water shock leading to rapid gasping, loss of coordination, and drowning risk within minutes.
