Families Add Nearly $125 Million to Trump Accounts in First Five Days

Families contributed nearly $125 million to Trump Accounts in the first five days after personal contributions became possible on July 4. A senior Treasury Department official said 500,000 new accounts were opened during that period. As of July 9 more than 6.5 million Trump Accounts had been opened for American children.

Seventy percent of the contributions were less than $250 and 60 percent were less than $100, according to the Washington Examiner. The Trump administration said the pattern shows use across income levels. Parents, relatives and employers may contribute up to $5,000 per year to each account.

The Trump Accounts program was signed into law on July 4, 2025, as part of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. For children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, the federal government deposits $1,000 into each qualifying account, with access restricted until the beneficiary turns 18.4 million claimed accounts are eligible for the federal seed deposit.

Michael Dell and Susan Dell provided $6.5 billion in additional seed contributions, the Washington Examiner reported. The funds will supply an extra $250 to 25 million accounts for children under age 10 living in ZIP codes with median annual income below $150,000.

The Trump Accounts app reached the top spot in the Apple App Store and holds an average rating of 4.75 stars from nearly 3,500 reviews.

The Trump administration stated that 99.9 percent of users encountered no technical issues. A Treasury Department official said average wait times were 0.2 seconds by phone and 0.5 seconds by chat. ” He added that previous Democratic and Republican presidents had been unable to enact similar measures.
