The family of the man convicted of murdering 18-year-old Henry Nowak has issued a public apology to the victim's parents and the Sikh community. " It asked that the incident not be used to "inflame division or hostility towards any community" and requested privacy for the family.

Sentencing and related proceedings The convicted killer received a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years at Southampton Crown Court. His mother, who was found guilty of taking the ceremonial knife used in the incident back to the family home, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17.

Political and official reactions Reform UK leader Nigel Farage called for a review of the sentence under the unduly lenient sentence scheme and said the case illustrated unequal treatment under the law. Hampshire police and crime commissioner Donna Jones said she would request a national review of religious exemptions for carrying bladed articles.

Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds described body-camera footage from the scene as "every parent's nightmare" and said the Independent Office for Police Conduct would examine the police response.
