Farage Resigns as MP for Clacton and Will Stand in Triggered By-Election

Nigel Farage resigned as Member of Parliament for Clacton on July 7 and said he will stand in the by-election that follows. Farage described the contest as a "people versus the establishment by-election" and stated that voters in Clacton should judge his actions. He said he has done nothing wrong and has not broken the law.

Resignation The announcement follows an investigation by Parliament's standards commissioner that began in May into Farage's failure to declare a £5 million gift from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne. Farage said the gift paid for security he requires.

Farage also registered a £9,253 trip to Belgium in April 2024 and a £15,276 donation for a U.S. domestic flight in December 2024, both from George Cottrell.

Labour, the Conservatives, the Lib Dems and Restore Britain have all said they will not be putting forward candidates for the by-election. " Rupert Lowe said Farage should have declared the £5 million gift and accused him of using the by-election to distract from the issue.

Zack Polanski called Farage a grifter and said Reform UK forms part of the establishment. >"I've decided that the people of Clacton should be the judges of my actions. And that is why I will be putting my name forward to stand in this by-election. I will fight to win.
