Dr. Anthony Fauci faces renewed calls for indictment over his alleged role in funding gain-of-function research and efforts to shape early assessments of COVID-19 origins. A former associate was recently indicted on federal charges of conspiracy and records destruction.

The indictment has prompted discussion about whether Fauci could face perjury charges related to his 2024 congressional testimony. President Trump has stated that a prior pardon covering Fauci is invalid.

Congressional Review Underway Sen.

Rand Paul, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, is preparing to subpoena Fauci for additional testimony under oath. Any statements made after January 2025 would be subject to potential perjury review. Fauci's former supervisor did not receive a similar pardon and remains eligible for questioning.

A CIA whistleblower testified last week that Fauci attempted to influence intelligence assessments on two occasions in 2020 and 2021. The testimony described efforts to steer analysis away from a lab-leak hypothesis toward a natural-origin narrative.

The whistleblower stated that Fauci supplied a list of experts, some of whom had contributed to a 2020 paper that dismissed the lab-leak possibility.

Dr. Fauci’s role in the cover-up was intentional." — James Erdman, May 2026 testimony Scientists have noted that early strains of the virus appeared unusually well-adapted to human transmission. Some researchers have pointed to genetic features not previously observed in natural coronaviruses.

Fauci, now 85, recently received the 2026 Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. He also participated in a dramatic reading at Georgetown University last month. Critics argue that Fauci has not addressed questions about his early knowledge of research conducted at the Wuhan lab through an intermediary organization.
