Samuel Becker, another protester facing local charges, told The Intercept that federal agents also visited him after his arrest. The FBI declined to comment on the contacts.
Amol Sinha, executive director of the ACLU’s New Jersey chapter, said the FBI has used similar approaches during past protest movements. Sinha advised that individuals approached by agents have the right to remain silent and to request an attorney. Karen Paff, a spokesperson for the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, said the office’s actions are standard when represented clients are contacted for questioning.
