Google filed a civil lawsuit in federal court in New York alleging the phishing kit used AI tools, including Gemini, to create fraudulent sites and scam content.
Google said the network included more than 9,000 fake websites and over 1 million fraudulent URLs. 5 million messages were sent to Android users from the infrastructure, with 55,000 flagged as fraudulent by recipients.
Users are advised not to tap links in unexpected texts and to verify web addresses before entering credentials. Additional steps include enabling spam protection, using strong passwords and avoiding sharing one-time passcodes.
