FBI Returns Alleged Fraud Suspect to United States

Abdullah Anwar was returned to the United States over the weekend after leaving the country in 2021. He faces charges including mail fraud, wire fraud, stolen property offenses, and money laundering. Officials said Anwar is connected to a network accused of causing more than $1 billion in losses over five years.

The investigation began after authorities in Dallas identified operations involving fake identification documents, counterfeit device manufacturing, and cargo theft. The FBI's crisis unit conducted the operation that located and returned him. Authorities described the return as part of a series of 23 similar actions completed in the past month.

Anwar was indicted before his departure. He had remained outside the country until the recent action brought him back into custody.
