FC Barcelona Signs Ecuadorian Left-Back Josue Caceido on Loan from LDU Quito with Buy Option

FC Barcelona signed 18-year-old Ecuadorian left-back Josue Caceido from LDU Quito on a loan deal, Forbes reported June 28. The agreement includes a $2.85 million buy option that converts to an obligation if Caceido makes four senior appearances under coach Hansi Flick. Caceido will spend at least one season in Catalonia with Barca Atletic, the club's reserve side.

The verbal agreement was reached last week. LDU Quito retains a 20 percent stake in any future sale of the player. Caceido, who stands 1.83 meters tall and turned 18 last year, was scouted at the U-20 Copa Libertadores.

Caceido is expected to feature for Barca Atletic rather than the Juvenil youth team. Juliano Belletti renewed his contract last week to remain Barca Atletic coach for at least another year. Young reserve players routinely receive preseason opportunities with the first team.
