FCA US to Recall 1.08 Million Jeeps Over Steering-Pump Wiring Issue

theverge.comFCA US is voluntarily recalling 1,076,999 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles from model years 2021 through 2025 because of a potential fire risk tied to the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall in a press release on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. FCA US confirmed the details to ABC News the following day.
The agency said a faulty electrical connection in the wiring can cause combustible materials to overheat and catch fire, even when the vehicle is turned off. Its investigation linked the defect to 51 fires and one injury. NHTSA advised owners to park recalled vehicles outside and away from other vehicles and buildings until repairs are completed.
FCA US said it will repair or replace the wiring harness and, if necessary, the electric hydraulic power steering pump. The company expects a remedy to be available no later than July 2026. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on July 9, 2026.
