FDA Releases List of Participants for July Peptide Safety Review Meeting

The Food and Drug Administration on Monday released its list of participants for a July meeting that will reconsider the safety and effectiveness of seven peptide injections, including BPC-157 and TB-500. Cnn reported that the two-day session marks the latest step in the agency’s review of compounded medications that have gained popularity among athletes and wellness clinics.

The new panel differs from prior versions, which drew mainly from universities such as Duke, Harvard and Johns Hopkins.

Cnn reported that more than a half-dozen members now run clinics, online businesses or pharmacies that prescribe or compound peptides. One member, Dr. Haleem Mohammed, operates Florida clinics under the Gameday Men’s Health chain that sell peptide injections along with vitamins, testosterone and weight-loss drugs.

Another participant, identified in the source material as Dr. Alizaidy, promotes BPC-157, GHK-Cu and similar compounds to thousands of followers on Instagram and TikTok. Bobby Harshbarger, a Tennessee state senator and pharmacist at his family’s Premiere Pharmacy, also serves on the panel.

Premiere Pharmacy compounds medications for weight loss, longevity and pain management. His mother, Rep. Diana Harshbarger, sent a letter to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. last year urging relaxation of restrictions on six peptides.

Cnn reported that one panel member pleaded guilty more than a decade ago to substituting an unapproved drug imported from China for a medication used by kidney-dialysis patients. The individual lost his pharmacy license and served a four-year prison sentence. Kennedy told podcast host Joe Rogan earlier this year that he is “a big fan of peptides” and has used them to recover from injuries.
