Federal authorities are investigating possible fraudulent activity at some Medicaid-funded social adult daycare centers in New York state. A CBS News data analysis identified 64 such centers within a one-mile radius in Flushing, Queens. The neighborhood contains one of New York City's largest senior populations.
From 2018 to 2024 the Medicaid-eligible senior population in Flushing grew about 20 percent. Over the same period the number of seniors billed by local centers rose 390 percent. Social adult daycares provide meals, care, social activities and other assistance to seniors and people with disabilities.
The services are paid for with Medicaid funds.
