Federal Charges Filed Against Three in Assault on Reporter at Minneapolis Protest

A federal grand jury indicted Christopher, Deyanna, and Paige Ostroushko on April 29 for allegedly assaulting journalist Savanah Hernandez outside the Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis during an anti-ICE protest in mid-April. The indictment states Hernandez was surrounded, physically assaulted, and shoved to the ground while reporting.

The three defendants, identified by authorities as members of one family, have pleaded not guilty.

26, Hernandez stated that each of the three defendants obtained ex parte restraining orders against her. The orders were granted after the defendants filed petitions alleging she had harassed and assaulted them. Hernandez wrote that the petitions claim she was the initial aggressor, backhanded and punched one defendant, grabbed another by the neck, and conducted a doxxing and defamation campaign.

One petition also alleges she is nearly six feet tall. The petitions request that Hernandez be barred from speaking about the family on social media and from entering the county where they live. They also seek to prohibit her from the public sidewalk near the ICE facility.

Next Steps No trial date has been set.

Both parents among the defendants have lost their jobs. Police have visited Hernandez's residence three times to serve the restraining orders.
