The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved nearly $8 billion in supplemental Medicaid payments to Florida hospitals on April 30, 2026. The payments cover services provided to Medicaid patients from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025.
CMS released the approval letters this week. The funds were also authorized by Florida state lawmakers and will be distributed through a state directed payment program.
The payments reimburse hospitals for care already delivered last year. Florida hospitals had lobbied state and federal officials to approve the additional funds. Hospitals in the state may receive further payments once federal Medicaid officials review this year's application.
The supplemental funds arrive ahead of new limits on state directed payment programs that were included in the 2025 federal tax legislation.
