Federal Prosecutors Investigate California Governor Gavin Newsom and Wife Over Nonprofit Payments

Federal prosecutors are investigating California Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the New York Post reported. The probe centers on Siebel Newsom’s nonprofit projects that support her documentary work. Her California Partners Project has received millions in behested payments arranged by the governor, according to the California Post.

Siebel Newsom called the investigation a “fishing expedition” during a Friday interview on MS Now with anchor Stephanie Ruhle. It was her first extended public comments on the matter. She said she does not know the details of the investigation.

Siebel Newsom stated that it began under former President Joe Biden and that President Trump was targeting her husband, whom she described as Trump’s most outspoken critic. “This is typical Trump fashion: go after your enemies,” she said. Newsom disclosed the investigation publicly in June 2026.

In a June 15 video address he said federal agents had knocked on the doors of family members, friends and former employees. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said on July 1 that Newsom can choose to say whatever he thinks helps him but it does not make it true.
