appleinsider.comFerrari unveiled the Luce, its first electric supercar, this week. The vehicle was designed by LoveFrom, the industrial-design firm run by Jony Ive and Marc Newson, both former Apple employees. The Luce produces more than 1,000 horsepower and costs $640,000.
It accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in about two seconds and has a drag coefficient lower than any previous roadgoing Ferrari, according to Car and Driver.
The car is configured as a four-door hatchback that seats five passengers. Its exterior is smooth and rounded rather than the low, taut profile associated with earlier Ferrari models. LoveFrom received freedom to redesign the form factor, electric motors, batteries, steering wheel, physical controls, and digital displays.
The interior retains Ferrari styling cues while the exterior resembles an aerodynamic lozenge.
Some Ferrari enthusiasts have expressed dissatisfaction with the exterior shape. Social-media users posted images mocking the car’s charging port placement.
Apple spent roughly a decade and more than a billion dollars annually attempting to develop its own vehicle under the code name Titan before canceling the project in 2024. The company now focuses on CarPlay software for existing vehicles. The Luce represents a collaboration between traditional automotive manufacturing and design expertise previously applied at Apple.
Ferrari stated the vehicle maintains the brand’s performance standards while adopting a new body style.
