Fertiliser Prices Rise Sharply in Myanmar Amid Global Shipping Disruptions
Restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have increased the cost of fuel and fertiliser in Myanmar, threatening harvests and food security for farmers.
Shipping restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz have raised the price of 50kg fertiliser bags in Myanmar fivefold since March, according to @AJEnglish reported. Farmers in Myanmar are struggling to afford fuel and fertiliser as a result of the restrictions, the same report stated. The higher input costs risk lower harvests across the country, @AJEnglish reported.
Lower harvests in turn increase the risk of more hunger for the population, the report added. Al Jazeera’s Perry Wilton filed the report on the impact of the shipping restrictions.
