FIFA rejects France appeal over Olise yellow card

FIFA rejected France's appeal against a yellow card issued to Michael Olise in the final minutes of the team's World Cup last-16 match against Paraguay. France coach Didier Deschamps told reporters in Foxborough on Wednesday that the governing body had notified the team the card would stand. Olise received the booking after an altercation with a Paraguayan player.

Yellow card consequences The upheld booking leaves Olise one caution away from suspension. Another yellow card in Thursday's quarterfinal against Morocco would sideline him for a possible semifinal. Two other France players also received yellow cards against Paraguay and face the same risk.

Referee and injury updates Deschamps said midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni was recovering from a thigh injury and might train on Wednesday. He declined to comment on the appointment of an Argentinian referee for the Morocco match. Facundo Tello will officiate the quarterfinal.

Deschamps said he would focus only on preparing for Morocco. Deschamps, who has led France since 2018, will step down after the tournament.
