Firefighters battle wildfires near Costa Brava and in northern Portugal

Hundreds of Spanish firefighters worked Friday to contain an expanding wildfire near the Costa Brava tourist area. The fire continued to grow as crews focused on containment lines around the affected zone.

Portugal requests assistance Portugal asked for outside help to fight forest fires burning in its northern region. The request came as crews there also worked to limit spread of the blazes. No injuries or damage totals were reported in the initial accounts.
