First Funeral Held for Victim of Fatal Explosion at Hanwha Aerospace Factory in Daejeon

The first funeral for one of five people killed in a factory explosion at Hanwha Aerospace was held in Daejeon on June 6 2026. The service occurred at a funeral parlor in the city, about 140 kilometers southeast of Seoul, in the morning. Bereaved family members, relatives and company executives attended.

Family members had placed flowers at an altar in Daejeon on June 5 for the victims. A blast at the Hanwha Aerospace facility on June 1 killed five people and injured two others. Company officials said the workers were cleaning propellant powder residue from tools used in the production of propulsion systems at the time of the explosion.

This week's explosion marked the latest fatal incident at the Hanwha Aerospace factory. An explosion in 2018 claimed five lives, and another explosion in 2019 left three people killed. Yonhap reported the details of the June 1 blast and the June 6 funeral.
