First Seaplane Flight Links Ioannina and Vlorë Between Greece and Albania
Hellenic Seaplanes completed the inaugural seaplane service from Ioannina to Vlorë, establishing the first air connection between the two countries using this type of aircraft.
EuronewsHellenic Seaplanes completed the first seaplane flight between Greece and Albania, operating from Ioannina to Vlorë. The service marks the first air link between two southeast European countries using a seaplane. The initiative followed an official invitation from the Albanian authorities.
It forms part of a broader framework of cooperation for the development of seaplane infrastructure and new cross-border transport corridors. Hellenic Seaplanes has already developed an extensive network of licensed water aerodromes in Greece. Flights to Vlorë and Pogradec represent the first practical step of the plan.
The company stated that the Greek-Albanian connection is only the beginning of its strategic planning. It plans to expand the network to cover countries of the Adriatic, the Ionian, the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. The aim of the network is to connect coastal cities, island regions and tourist destinations across the Mediterranean, strengthening connectivity, tourism and economic cooperation between these regions.
