Five Men Injured in Edinburgh Attacks; 36-Year-Old Man Charged

Five men sustained injuries in a series of attacks across Edinburgh on the evening of Friday, 19 June 2026. Police received multiple reports of violent incidents involving threats, robbery and vandalism. The victims were aged 22, 22, 24, 27 and 39.

Three required hospital treatment; none of the injuries were life-threatening. m. in the Sighthill area, where two men were injured. Three additional men were attacked later in the Telford Road and Leith Walk areas.

Two of the incidents occurred near Broomhouse Mosque. A 36-year-old Scottish man was arrested on 19 June 2026 in connection with the attacks. Police Scotland said he has been charged and a report submitted to the procurator fiscal; he is expected to appear in court in due course.

Counter Terrorism Policing Scotland is leading the investigation with support from specialist and local officers. Authorities stated there is no further threat to the public. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated the suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred.

“I will not tolerate this – he will face the full force of the law,” Starmer said. Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney received a police briefing and stated there is no place for race-based or faith-based violence in Scotland. Swinney will meet members of the Muslim community on Monday.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated she was horrified by the violence, which appeared to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton described the incident as shocking. The Scottish Association of Mosques said two of the injured men were attacked after attending prayers at a local mosque.
