Five Men Injured in Edinburgh Knife Attacks, 36-Year-Old Man Arrested

Five men were injured in a series of incidents in Edinburgh on Friday evening that appeared to target Muslims. A 36-year-old white Scottish man was arrested in connection with the attacks, Police Scotland said. Officers responded to the first report at approximately 8:50 pm in the Sighthill area, where two men were injured.

Three additional men were attacked in the Telford Road and Leith Walk areas during the same period. The injured men were aged 22, 22, 24, 27, and 39. Three required hospital treatment, though none of the injuries are life-threatening.
Several of the injured men are Muslim, and two were reportedly attacked after attending prayers at their local mosque, according to the Scottish Association of Mosques. Police detained the 36-year-old man at approximately 9:30 pm. Police Scotland stated there is no further threat to the public.
Counter-terrorism officers have launched a probe into the incidents. Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton described the incident as "shocking" and said her thoughts were with those injured. " Police closed off Leith Walk on Friday evening.
Social media posts appeared to show a man with a knife on the street, and a video appeared to show a topless man on the ground shouting that he is "protecting the country" while being held by an officer. " A Major Incident Public Portal has been set up for the public to submit information to police.
