Floods inundate towns in Guangxi province after reservoir dams fail

Towns and villages in Hengzhou, the epicenter of flooding in China's Guangxi province, were inundated with water on Monday after dams at local reservoirs failed amid record-breaking rainfall. Hundreds of snakes escaped from a breeding farm during the floods.

The flooding followed heavy rainfall that exceeded previous records for the area. Local reservoirs could not contain the volume of water, leading to dam failures. Residents in affected towns and villages faced rising water levels that covered roads and buildings.

A breeding farm released hundreds of snakes into the floodwaters when its structures were compromised. Authorities have not released further details on containment efforts.
