Edward Vincent, a supervisor at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, stated in a July 20 court filing that the Alligator Alcatraz immigration detention center no longer exists and that no detainees remain on site. He submitted aerial photos of empty asphalt where the tents had stood at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport.
The filing responded to a lawsuit challenging the center’s operation in the Everglades.
The state erected the center last summer at the airport to expand detention capacity for President Trump’s deportation push. An infusion of cash later resolved shortages at federal facilities, ending the need for the Florida site. President Trump visited the facility and praised Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for assisting the national effort.
