axios.comA Florida judge ruled Friday that former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold does not need to wear a GPS tracker as a condition of his release. The ruling permits Arnold to continue workouts with NFL teams as he seeks a new contract. Arnold turned himself in on June 24 in connection with a February kidnapping and robbery incident in the Tampa area.
He remains out on a $1 million bond and is subject to home confinement except for work and legal appointments. The Detroit Lions cut Arnold last week, after which he cleared waivers on July 6 and became an unrestricted free agent. The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office filed a motion to reconsider the bond terms after the release.
Prosecutors argued that Arnold is no longer in the "unique position of being an NFL player," which they described as a "substantial change" in circumstances. Lawyers for Arnold countered that a GPS monitor would prevent him from signing with another team.
Agent Nicole Lynn testified that she received inquiries from the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts within 24 hours of the Lions' decision.
She said Arnold completed a workout with the Texans this week and has another scheduled with an NFL team next week. "He actually had a workout with the team, an NFL team, just yesterday. So he was in their facility, they paid for him to fly in, he did a physical, which shows you how serious these teams are about him," Lynn told the court.
She told the court there is currently no contract or verbal agreement with any team. Arnold was a 2024 first-round draft pick out of Alabama.
