Food Prices to Be Capped Under New Election Manifesto

The cost of essential supermarket groceries, including items such as bread, milk, and cheese, is set to be capped under a new manifesto pledge announced by the First Minister. This initiative aims to assist consumers facing rising living costs. During a campaign event in Glasgow, the First Minister stated that the government would utilize devolved powers to compel supermarkets to limit the prices of essential items.

In addition to the food price cap, the manifesto outlines other key priorities, including simplifying the income tax system, introducing a nationwide £2 bus fare cap, and expanding funded childcare services.

The First Minister urged voters to support the party to facilitate a push for a second independence referendum, framing the upcoming election as a critical moment for Scotland's future.

The manifesto also includes commitments to improve healthcare access, reduce NHS waiting lists, and tackle child poverty. This plan includes expanding walk-in GP practices to alleviate appointment pressures.

The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions about a potential second independence referendum, which the First Minister described as a realistic possibility if the party secures a majority in the upcoming election. However, the UK government has not indicated support for another referendum, with officials stating that the country has had enough of political upheaval.
