Forbes published its third annual New Ivies list of 20 colleges whose graduates rate highly with employers. The list includes 10 public and 10 private schools selected after a survey of more than 100 C-suite executives. The survey asked executives how artificial intelligence is changing their hiring of recent graduates.

Nearly 25 percent said AI would reduce their need for entry-level college graduates, and 60 percent said it would change their staffing needs.

Amazon announced in January it would cut 16,000 corporate jobs after reducing staff by 14,000 earlier. UPS said the same month it would eliminate up to 30,000 white-collar positions this year. Oracle began a round of layoffs last week, with estimates reaching 30,000.

Stanford researchers found employment for workers aged 22 to 25 in AI-vulnerable jobs fell 16 percent through October. 2 percent for all workers.

University announced in December it would require an “AI working competency” for graduation. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill provost Magnus Egerstedt said the school is emphasizing liberal arts foundations, creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving.

Thirty-seven percent of surveyed executives said they are less likely to hire Ivy League graduates than five years ago. Forty-two percent said they are more likely to hire graduates from public universities. The 20 schools are listed alphabetically with 2024 enrollment and test-score data from the National Center for Education Statistics.
