Dr. Ed Hasan Files Retaliation Complaint After Harassment Report
Dr. Ed Hasan, a former board member of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, filed a formal complaint on April 22 alleging retaliation after raising concerns about harassment and governance. Rep. Rashida Tlaib renewed allegations of sexual harassment from her time at the ADC, citing failures in addressing past incidents.
Dr. Ed Hasan, a former board member of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and Georgetown University adjunct lecturer, filed a formal complaint on April 22 outlining concerns about the organization’s internal handling of allegations. He also filed a formal derivative demand that day seeking corrective action, including the removal of board leadership.
Fox News reported that Hasan shared these concerns with the DC attorney general’s office, raising issues about harassment and governance failures while expecting an independent investigation. The ADC conducted an internal review of the concerns raised by Hasan. Within days after he raised these concerns, the ADC removed Hasan from his board position.
Hasan described the removal as retaliation and stated that the board investigated the matter internally despite his objections that it should be handled by an independent third party, creating a conflict of interest. Hasan stated that meaningful change will require the resignation of the current board and the creation of a community-driven interim transitional board to rebuild trust and safety.
' Rep.
Alleged she was sexually harassed while working for the ADC early in her career. Tlaib posted a video to social media last week describing her experience of sexual harassment at the ADC’s Michigan office early in her career. She spoke out after discovering the ADC was using her image on its website.
Tlaib stated that the alleged misconduct at the ADC later escalated to involve multiple women, with more than two dozen individuals coming forward with similar accounts. She accused the ADC of failing to properly address the allegations, stating the individual accused of misconduct didn’t get fired and was instead paid to go away.
Tlaib said, 'Shame on you for using the image of a victim of your organization and continuation of a toxic work environment.
' The allegations referenced by Tlaib were publicly reported more than a decade ago. Multiple women came forward more than a decade ago with claims of misconduct involving a senior ADC staffer. ' Omar Baddar, a Palestinian-American political analyst who previously led a regional ADC chapter, stood with Tlaib outside an ADC event 13 years ago demanding accountability over sexual harassment allegations involving a senior staffer.
