Former Carmacks Mayor Lee Bodie Dies at Age 72

The Village of Carmacks issued a statement on Monday announcing the death of former mayor Lee Bodie at age 72. Bodie had served on the village council since 2006 and held the mayor's office from 2015 until his retirement in 2024. The statement described Bodie as a "pillar of the community." He also owned and operated the Tatchun Centre General Store until selling the business in 2024.
The current mayor of Carmacks said Bodie remained "a man of the people" and emphasized everyday conversation over formal politics. The mayor added that the news is "devastating to the community" and recalled shared tasks and humor during their years on council.
" Faro Mayor Jack Bowers said the last conversation with Bodie occurred during a drive from Whitehorse and noted that Bodie's efforts helped complete the village's new arena, which opened in 2023. Cameron recalled one instance when Bodie allowed him to park a vintage car in the lot while Cameron arranged repairs.
